There seems to be some confusion, especially on the right, about what the term “politicize” means. (Updated)
To politicize something is to artificially inject politics into an otherwise non-partisan or non-political event or issue of national concern. For example, one can make partisan arguments when discussing defense or health care or tragedies like the Virginia Tech shootings — but it’s certainly possible to refrain from doing so.
